The sheriff may involve either the county’s animal shelter that has facilities for boarding in emergencies or may involve the county veterinarian to fully assess the animal. Both will be responsive but must be accessed through the sheriff.

SVERN is dedicated to providing public education in equine rescue as well as all aspects of horse owner-ship and care. SVERN provides care and rehabilitation for unwanted, abandoned, neglected, abused and malnourished horses.
Available to assist with physical rescues of horses who have gotten into a difficult position i.e an inescapable mud bog and cannot rise. They are dispatched by Culpepper County. Follow them at little-forkfrc.org or Little Fork Volunteer Technical Large Animal Rescue Team on Facebook.
